How it works

Four steps from your first message to your first shift.

1

Tell us about your program

Your school, program, state, start date and how many hours you need. A form, a text or a call is enough.

2

We check your school's rules

We read your handbook for who can precept you, which settings count and how supervision works, before we suggest anyone.

3

You choose your preceptor

You get a short list of qualified preceptors near you. Nobody is contacted until you pick.

4

We handle the paperwork

Agreement, credentials and clearances go to your school on its own forms. You start your hours.

What we handle for you

The parts of a placement that usually go wrong, taken care of before they cost you a term.

A preceptor your school will accept

License, specialty and patient mix checked against your handbook first.

The affiliation agreement

Prepared on your school's forms and followed through to signature.

Clearances, dated past your last day

Background check, immunizations, titers and certifications collected for you.

Telehealth questions answered

Whether remote hours count for your program and your state board, in writing.

Friday updates

Hours logged, evaluations due and your next deadline, every week.

A backup if your preceptor leaves

A second qualified preceptor lined up in your state, so banked hours carry over.

Placement coordinator

Your first contact. Knows which preceptors near you have worked with your school before, and keeps your placement moving week to week.

★★★★★Three preceptors I found on my own were turned down by my school. Practicum Council asked for my handbook before anything else, and the fourth name went through the first time.
A. Whitaker, FNP student, Indiana
★★★★★My program wanted a field instructor two years past licensure, and it checks. Caroline knew one in Columbus whose paperwork my school had already accepted.
J. Castellanos, MSW student, Ohio
★★★★★I wanted telehealth, and my handbook caps remote hours. Dr. Samuel R. split my rotation between a clinic and a telehealth group so every hour counted.
R. Okafor, PMHNP student, Illinois

Questions students ask

Will my school find a preceptor for me?

Most online programs don't. They expect you to find a preceptor and submit them for approval. Practicum Council does that search for you, checks the preceptor against your handbook, and sends the agreement to your school.

Which schools and programs do you work with?

Any accredited school. We place nurse practitioner, DNP, MSN, RN-to-BSN, social work, counseling, MFT, psychology, behavior analysis, public health and health administration students, in 46 states.

How fast can I be placed?

It depends on your specialty and location. Many students have a shortlist within a week. Starting a term early gives the agreement and clearances time to finish before your hours begin.

Can my hours be virtual?

If your program allows telehealth hours, yes, through clinical partners who log every hour in your school's system. If your program requires in-person hours, we find a preceptor near you.

When do I pay?

Only once you're matched. You get a written quote first, and you see your preceptor, site and start date before anything is due.

Is my information private?

Yes. Only your coordinator and the people handling your paperwork see it. A preceptor gets your name only after you approve them.
